Although our family has been involved in commerical and registered sheep production for 3 generations the club lamb phase didn't start until 1991 with the purchase of Lew Cox keeper ewe lambs and the flock of George Scott.
Lew's flock consisted of mainly Crazy Horse Suffolk genetics thru Fred Knop and Mel Marx. This flock also included Joe Harrel, Mike Peacock and Mayor Gentics. These genetics were dominating the show ring at that time.
That same year we purchased the entire George Scott family flock. These ewes had been
very successful for many years at all levels of competition, including a class winner at Houston. These ewes were predominatly Hamp. They were extremely hard muscled, long hind sadled, stylish, meaty, productive ewes. Their genetics were provided by Barry Ward, Sonny Haas and Tommy Prior.
In the late 90's the industry started to switch from basic suffok to hampshire. In fact in 1999 there was only 2 classes of Hampshires at NWSS. Things changed quickly since that time to the Hampshire dominated shows of today. Our flock has always had a strong hamp infulence thru Scott, Mayor & Prior gentics, but we needed to switch to a stronger Hamp influence.
Since 2000 we have purchased rams from Miller, Whitaker, Rule, Hindman, Duffy, Schminke & Impact. In 2007 we implimented AI and began ET work in 2015. We also leased rams from Gene Winn. Gene has been a huge help and friend, I thank him so much for all he does for me and the exhibitors he helps. I would also like to thank Gene, Daniel Melendrez and Rodney Yates for helping place lambs in good homes. Thanks to all the families and exhibitors
of our lambs. As of late I would like to thank Brain Reilly & Al & Kandy Schminke for raising rams that have so positively affected our flock. In 2020 we AI'd to Unicorn, Ignite, Popcorn and Wiggles. In 2021 we AI'd toMr. Majestic and Gnarly. |
